INVEST BEFORE THE NEXT FIRE SEASON
Build Healthier Forests, Resilient Parks and Safer Communities
In 2026, Oregon is experiencing its most severe wildfire season in recorded history. While millions of dollars are necessarily spent fighting fires and helping communities recover, there is another urgent need: investing before the next wildfire season starts.
Across Oregon, park and forest managers have identified practical projects that can reduce hazardous fuels, improve forest
health, protect public infrastructure and make landscapes more resilient to wildfire. Many do not require millions of dollars. They need $25,000, $35,000 or $50,000 – and the ability to put those dollars to work quickly.
Oregon Parks Forever is creating a $1 million Wildfire Resilience Fund to provide rapid, flexible grants for practical wildfire
resilience projects in forests and parks throughout Oregon.
SMALL GRANTS. FAST ACTION. MEASURABLE RESULTS.
The Fund will award $25,000-$50,000 grants to qualified park and forest managers for projects that are ready to proceed. Oregon Parks Forever will emphasize concise applications, prompt decisions and measurable results – filling the gap between large public programs and smaller projects that can make an immediate difference, such as:
Forest Health & Fuel Reduction
Thinning, ladder-fuel reduction, brush and surface-fuel treatment,
strategic fuel breaks.
Prescribed & Cultural Fire
Safe restoration of fire to fire-adapted landscapes, including
Indigenous knowledge and stewardship.
Park & Community Protection
Defensible space around campgrounds, visitor facilities, historic
resources and public infrastructure.
Restoration & Recovery
Meadow and native vegetation restoration, invasive species control,
watershed protection and post-fire recovery.
Oregon’s wildfire challenge is too large for any one agency, community or sector to solve alone. It will require government,
philanthropy, business, tribes, nonprofits and local communities working together – and leaders willing to invest in solutions
before disaster strikes.
The Wildfire Resilience Fund gives Oregon’s foundations and business community an opportunity to lead a shift from wildfire
response to wildfire readiness. Early partners will help demonstrate a model built around private dollars deployed quickly,
matched with local resources, and invested directly in projects that make Oregon’s parks, forests and communities
more resilient.
