A lot to love: Capitol Subaru joins our Happy Little  Virtual 5K

Register now for this fun run and plant 10 trees
We are pleased to welcome Capitol Subaru of Salem as a sponsor for this event.

During the time frame of Earth Day to Arbor Day, between April 18 and 26, Capitol Subaru will donate $20 for each car sold during this week which will provide 20 trees per donation to be planted throughout Marion County.

Subaru has always served as a pioneer in the automotive business, and the company continues to set the standard for environmentally friendly cars.  They have a full range of environmentally positive vehicles including all electric and hybrid. However, that’s not the end of the brand’s accolades. When consumers choose a Subaru for their next car or SUV, they select one of the market’s safest manufacturers. Capitol Subaru is community-minded and we look forward to planting many more trees.

If you are near Salem, plan take a test drive at Capital Subaru and then head over to Minto-Brown Island paved path trail. Some of the scenery will include views of the Willamette Slough, Willamette River, ponds, farm land, large meadows, and a variety of tree species. The park is also a wildlife refuge. Boasting 12 plus miles of trails, you should have no problem if you want a short walk or a longer run.

If you’ve run, walked, skipped, or strolled with us before, you already know this event has a funny habit of growing fast. (Last year sold-out early) This year, Happy Little Trees (Virtual) 5K benefits tree planting and forest health in 17 states. That’s alot of trees!

All proceeds support tree-planting and forest protection efforts (such as invasive plant, forest pest management, and early detection surveys) in state parks and recreation areas, including locations affected by tree pests like emerald ash borer and oak wilt. Last year we sent 40,000 to the Santiam Canyon and hope to increase it in 2026.

If you want to join solo or with your team, but don’t want the race swag, you can plant trees with a donation using this link. Donate: No swag.

Already registered? Thank you! And if you know folks who plan to join you this year, feel free to share this message and help us grow the forests a little more.

For $36 per person, each participant will receive a keepsake Happy Little T-shirt, a commemorative bib number, and a finisher’s medal. We will be allowing participation between April 18 and 26 to encompass Earth Day (April 22) and Arbor Day (April 24).

Results and photo submissions can be made the weekend before Earth Day and the weekend after Arbor Day. Photos and result submissions are not required, but it is a great way to engage with other participants and celebrate your achievement. When posting about your adventure on social media, we encourage you to use #RunForTheTrees #BobRoss #HappyLittle5K #ORstateParksForever.
