This year, we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of our organization. As we reflect on our accomplishments, we also look to the future in which our work will contribute to the well-being of not only our state parks, but all federal, state, local, and tribal lands across the state. We have decided to expand our reach.

Thank you for being a valued supporter of Oregon State Parks Foundation. I hope you and your loved ones are safe and sound at home. Our hearts go out to anyone who has been impacted by this virus. We are grateful to those working on the front lines who are caring for people in need — whether it is our first responders, health care professionals, neighbors helping neighbors, or those delivering food to people who cannot get out.

Are you feeling stressed out and still wanting to be a responsible “social distancer”?

Your gym is closed, you are self-quarantined, the kids are climbing the walls, and all of you are suffering from cabin fever…you may be suffering from Nature Deficit Disorder! It’s time to think about your physical and psychological well being!

Oregon has some of the most extraordinary state parks in the country; from the 80-plus state parks dotting the Oregon coast to the Switzerland-like vistas surrounding Iwetemlaykin. From the jaw-dropping waterfalls at Silver Falls, to the wide-open skies of Cottonwood Canyon State Park, to the awe-inspiring cliffs of Smith Rock, we simply cannot imagine Oregon without these incredible places. We are grateful for the outdoor lifestyle they provide us.

In October, families came together for the annual African American Outdoor Association Campout (AOAA) sponsored by the Foundation and Oregon State Parks Department. The AOAA’s mission is to “encourage and support the efforts of African Americans to get healthy by getting active outdoors.” They stage outdoor events like hikes, bike rides, kayak trips and more throughout the state.
